(The Hosting News) – On Tuesday, virtualization software giant VMware launched a new open Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) called Cloud Foundry. The new PaaS assists developers with creating new applications and will likely compete with Microsoft’s Azure Cloud.
Cloud Foundry is the first real open platform PaaS and essentially enables non-SQL databases to use cloud computing. This includes both public and private platforms. The new PaaS also lets developers use it on various systems that don’t implement other VMware programming.
With the unveiling, VMware Chief Executive Paul Maritz stated, “We believe we can reach many more developers and be a great underlying platform”.
Cloud Foundry supports such software frameworks including Node.js, Spring for Java, Sanatra for Ruby and MySQL. Free sign up for Cloud Foundry is available at: http://cloudfoundry.com/
