(The Hosting News) – According to reports from Digital Trends, Microsoft has recently leaked on their Dutch website that Windows 8 will be released in 2012.
Possibly its’ most successful operating system yet, Microsoft recently celebrated the one year anniversary of Windows 7. Microsoft reportedly sold more than 240 million licenses in its first year. During the celebration, Microsoft stated that it is currently working hard on Windows 8 and that its’ release date is still about two years away.
According to the latest reports, Microsoft has since replaced the statement with a new one stating that the first Service Pack for Windows 7 is still in testing and that it will be released in the first half of 2011.
If Windows 8 is released in 2012, the gap between 7 and 8 would be close to three years, the same gap between the release of Vista and 7. Since Microsoft’s launching of Vista five years after the release of XP, the company announced that it would never again wait that long to release a new OS.
