(The Hosting News) – Microsoft is expected to debut its new operating system, Windows 9, in the coming months during a “technology preview,” according to sources familiar with the matter.
The operating system, dubbed “Threshold”, is said to improve “Window’s usability on non-touch devices and by those using mice and keyboards alongside touch,” CNet reports.
Among many of the new features rumored to be included in the system are virtual desktops, a new “mini” Start Menu, the removal of the Charms bar, integration of Cortana, Metro-style apps that run on separate windows on the desktop, and various UI changes.
CNet’s sources noted that the preview will be made available to the general public in either late September or early October, adding that users will have to agree to have monthly updates automatically pushed in order to continue using the system.
Windows 9 is rumored to be available spring 2015, though an official release date has not yet been announced.
