(The Hosting News) – There’s more news coming from this year’s annual VMware Conference (VMworld 2011) and it involves tech giant Dell’s first major step towards the public cloud.
By partnering with virtualization provider VMWare, Dell is set to offer public, private, and hybrid clouds all backed by VMware’s vCloud Datacenter services. Commenting on the matter, Dell Services President Steve Schuckenbrock stated, “Dell is excited to announce with VMware our first Public cloud offering that will provide customers with a secure, enterprise solution.”
“With one of the largest bases of VMware installed customers, we will be able to provide seamless interoperability with existing VMware environments,” he continued. By launching the services, Dell cited its commitment to make “next generation computing solutions” available.
Along with the offering, there’s a need for added security. To deal with this, Dell says it will add “multi-layer provisioning of services” by working with SecureWorks, Trend Micro, and VMWare. They’ll also monitor firewalls to properly protect against vulnerabilities.
The services are aimed at companies including service providers, hosts, customer organizations, and more. As for the cloud’s release, the cloud offering is currently available in beta and will be released later this year. However, for other platforms, it’s set for 2012.
The latest development marks the latest continued expansion of cloud services by various top technology companies.
Meanwhile, in October, Dell is set to hold its annual Dell World conference. Keynotes at the conference will feature top company representatives including CEO Michael Dell. Vivek Kundra, the former U.S. Chief Information Officer (CIO) is also set to keynote.
It’s not the first time the two companies have worked together. Dell has a history as a VMware reseller. They also recently made another announcement preceding the launch of this year’s VMworld conference by announcing VMware compatibility for their existing EqualLogic line, Dell’s data center arrays supporting virtualization.
